The municipality of Lanie is located on vast expanses of untouched nature of the fairy-tale Mediterranean peninsula in the hilly-mountainous area of ićarija on the far north-eastern edge of Istria County, where in the north it borders with the Republic of Slovenia, and in the east with Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
With an area of 143.13 km2 it is the largest municipality and also the least populated municipality in Istria and has only 270 inhabitants in a total of 14 authentic settlements.
